October 13, 2007
Well, it's been quite the eventful year!  I apologize for the delay in formal updates, everything has been so crazy and I've hardly had a chance to hold still in weeks!  I'm flying to Montana right now for a quick weekend trip to visit my family... and taking advantage of some 'down time'!  My younger sister, Nikole McEwen took 17th place in the pole vault in Osaka this summer at the 2007 World Games, looking forward to finally celebrating with her!  I guess I will start from the last update... The competition season was extremely successful this year, and in spite of some very steep competition including fellow FigureRx teammate Ali Huston, the hard work finally paid off with a 4th place finish at Team Universe in NY, and 3rd place two weeks later at USA's in Las Vegas.  Additionally, my goal this year of being published was finally realized with my very first article in Muscular Development!  I took a couple weeks off after USA's for some personal time, including a quick vacation to Sweden, before getting right back into the swing of things preparing to head out to Las Vegas to watch my first Olympia - quite possibly with the best conditioning I've achieved since the 2006 season following three weeks of intense training and cardio in preparation!  I have to thank TC Chang for the motivation though, I was honored with an invite to shoot for his Fit Angels project the same weekend!  Shooting with TC was such a phenomenal experience, he brought a contagious and refreshing enthusiasm that reminds you why you worked so hard!  Thanks TC!

I also finally worked with John Stutz for his upcoming book project - it was an incredibly successful day, yielding SIX photos he selected for his project, and another two he's reserved for future projects.  After several days of rain and several more that followed, we were lucky to have the one amazing day of beautiful sunshine and some perfect settings - you can see John's "second" favorites on his site at www.johnstutz.com.

In the previous few months, I was also lucky enough to work a second time in Vegas with Weiferd Watts - with his extensive experience working with ballet dancers and artistic eye, we got some amazing shots together - well worth hair and makeup at 4 am after 3 hours of sleep!  At the Olympia, I worked with Dan Ray and Romanian born, Australian Figure Pro Arina Manta - She is absolutely amazing and even more beautiful in person if you can believe!  We had a blast in the desert and managed to get a few images as well ;-)  I snagged a quick set at the Orleans pool with one of my favorite photographers, James Cook, who just squeezed me in as the desert sun was starting to set - look for those photos soon at FTV, as well as some quick video with Kriv Studios.  And as long as we had him across the border, I was lucky enough to get some time with top Canadian photographer and good friend, David Ford on our Monday "off" before we both flew out.

This last weekend proved to be quite the adventure, between an overall 11th place finish at Jr. Nationals and the amazing people I met and photographers I had an opportunity to shoot with.  I was nervous coming into the show as I've made multiple changes to my physique this year in an attempt to follow the new 'softer' criteria of figure.  Overall, I think I was successful, but I've definitely walked away with ideas of how to tweak for Team Universe in another 3 weeks.  I was lucky enough to room with Allison Moyer from AlliFit.com for the weekend - she's a true inspiration and an absolutely amazing individual - thanks for all your help Alli!  I was also fortunate to work with photographers John Nafpliotis, Dan Ray, Annie Riviecco, TomNine, and a few quick shots with Jeff Binns and Tre Scott.  The real surprise this weekend though was the amazing support provided to me by my new sponser, FigureRx.  I’d like to take the opportunity to thank them for making the weekend a truly amazing experience, the level of support was phenomenal, and I cannot adequately relay how much I appreciate all the help!

My younger sister, Niki McEwen, will be competing tomorrow, June 2, 2007 in the Reebok Grand Prix Invitational in the pole vault.  The Vault starts at 6:00 at the track on Randall's island, stop by and help me cheer her on!  Additional information can be found at http://www.reebokgrandprix.com/2007/facility.htm

FigureRx.com - I'm pleased to announce my new sponsorship with FigureRx.com, a new site which will be launching shortly.  The site will feature several additional Figure and Fitness athletes, and will provide contest coverage, training, nutrition, and contest prep articles, a discount supplement store, and a forum for open discussion.  While in Chicago for Jr. Nationals, I've scheduled photo shoots, video, and an interview for the site, so keep your eyes peeled for the site to launch!
